Lil Wayne Boycotted for Hating Dark Skinned Women: Self-Hatred 101
“Beautiful black woman, I bet that b*tch look better red,” recent Lil Wayne lyric.
Lil Wayne has repeatedly proclaimed his adoration for light-skinned women. Many of his lyrics refer to light-skinned women and “red bones”. One Bossip reader recently met Lil Wayne and was disgusted by his attitude.
According to Bossip, Destiny stated:
We met up with Mack Maine from Young Money, he then took us to a hotel a couple of other girls were there and so was Lil Wayne, Guda Guda, Lil Chuckee, and Birdman. When we entered the room Guda was like “Damn, y’all pretty, to be dark skin.” And then Wayne quoted a verse from his song ["Right Above"]. I heard the song before and I was offended when I heard the lyrics, but I brushed my feelings off and forgot about what the gremlin said. But him saying it over again made me angry as hell. So me being the outspoken person that I am, I said, “Wayne, your daughter is dark skin so why would you say such ignorance?” He said ‘My daughter is a dark skinned millionaire, that’s the difference between her and you.”
I can tell he was very upset because i bought his daughter up but that is no excuse for what he said. Next he stated, “MY daughter is the first and last dark skin child I’m having. The rest of my baby moms [are] light skinned chicks. I even got an Asian baby moms to make sure I have a daughter with good hair. Too bad we had a son.”
Everybody started laughing and [we] stormed out of the room. Some guys followed us saying “Not everybody hate dark skinned girls. Young Money just allergic to Chocolate.”
The Legaci Response:
Lil Wayne is not the first Black rapper to repeatedly exclaim the necessity of acquiring a light skinned woman. Diddy, Soulja-Boy, Young Jeezy, Kanye West and the infamous Yung Berg are all members of the “I need a light skinned woman” bunch. The issue is deeper than preference. It is linked to the ever-present self-hatred still lurking in the Black community after hundreds of years of slavery and degradation. During slavery and the Jim Crow era, African Americans were repeatedly told that everything about them was evil, ugly and unwanted. In fact, there were actual debates among European descended Americans questioning whether or not Africans/Black People were human beings with souls.
It was reinforced within society that the closer you are to white, the more beautiful you are. Over time, generations began adopt this skewed perception of humanity and beauty. It has taken years for the mental shackles to be loosened. Many Black leaders began to preach against this self-hatred. Marcus Garvey and Malcolm X are two prime examples. Malcolm X once asked, “Who taught you to hate yourself? Who taught you to hate the texture of your hair? Who taught you to hate the color of your skin?” Still, it will take many more years before the mental shackles will completely come off. Fanatasia recently infuriated fans when she stated that she was not “Beautiful and light skinned with long flowing hair” on a recent episode of her VH1 reality TV show. Lil Kim has undergone obvious skin-lightening procedures. And the list continues.
Unfortunately, many African Americans have yet to move beyond the lighter is better complex. Thus, more work needs to be done within our communities to teach our youth about their own self worth, beauty and history. The only way to fix this problem is to confront it and stop it from continuing. Self-hatred only renders a cycle of self-degradation. Thus, it is no wonder that Lil Wayne spends many nights drunk and high sipping from what he calls, “my cup”.
To many, it is painful to hear the self-dehumanizing lyrics of Lil Wayne; a dark-skinned Black Man who came from the womb of a dark-skinned woman, and has a dark-skinned daughter. Thus, it is understandable for listeners to boycott his music. However, the boycott will not matter unless we start to tackle these issues at the source (the inner workings of our communities) and teach our youth that our beauty comes is all forms, shades, shapes and sizes.
By the way, Lil Wayne lost many listeners a long time ago when he came out with the song “Whip it like a slave”. Furthermore, his repeated references to women as hoes and bitches is yet another big issue.
We’ve got to take our community back. The power is within us to raise a new generation void of self-hatred and full of self-love.

The Death Of Myspace: Are you still using it… A few weeks ago a friend of a friend asked me what I was doing on my computer. He said, “ What are on? Twitter? Myspace? Facebook?” I looked up from my computer with a confused look on my face and stated with a part laugh, [...]
This is why I stopped listening to lil wayne a long time ago. He is an ignorant fool and hates himself and his mother.
I’m light skinned and i have to say that I am tired of people thinking that light-skinned is more beautiful. People like Wayne really need a black history month lesson.
This is a shame I have a beautiful 6 year old niece who told me that she wish she was white or puerto rican so that she could have long hair and light skin what kind of man would make those remarks that is a slap in the face to his ex wife his daughter and the women in his family
Stop worrying about what these thugs think. Seriously ladies. Little Wayne isnt the type of man you need.
We need more of you in life. Seriously.
I’m not bothered a bit and I am a proud GORGEOUS brown sistah and I know plenty more that are darker and just as GORGEOUS…. What REAL woman wants him anyhow? The only thing this fool has going for himself is his money……One day he will need to apologize to his daughter and his grand children for being pathetic and disrespectful!

The Princess Briana book (the amazon link is attached) empowers young girls of color to love their features. Just read the reviews from parents and teachers on Amazon to see for yourself. These are the kinds of products we should support in order to fight this self-hatred still in our community.
His behavior is reflective of that of many of our most visible folks and radical leaders, as almost all have “light-skinned” women (“one” thing Obama got right–my opinion). Not defending him, as i prefer the dark skin sister.
Take it a step further, i’ll take a “light skinned sistah” with African consciousness over a darker “diva” any day…
Peace and Blessings
I AM SO THREW WITH HIM AND THAT COMMENT!! UGHHH!
Lil Wayne is medium brown not dark. None of his baby mamas are light skin black women.Kanye West was born in Atlanta (black majority) and raised in Chicago (black majority)he called light skin black video models (there are very few) mutts. A racist term for mixed people. These young black rappers have reverse colorism a hatred or discrimination of light skin blacks and biracials. Philadelphia (black majority)has a lot of reverse colorism. I’m a light skin black and had lived there for many years. In Philly there are few light skin black and dark skin black young Adult couples. I’ve also lived in cities that weren’t like this.
Lil wayne is out of line, but darkskin women need to stop taking it out on lightskin women, its not our fault the way we look, so if your gonna diss wayne for saying that then diss lightskin women for being lightskin then you’re just as bad as him.
lil wayne is a f**ken loser i hope he burns in hell.i used to be be his no.1 fan but now im not.
Lot of disgruntled sistas here.
Here’s something you’re not going to like: ironically, guys like Li’l Wayne may have issues about skin color. But they were likely created by — guess who — black women.
You can bet your last dollar, the first time Li’l Wayne heard the term, “sit yo BLACK ass down,” or, “wit ‘cho BLACK ass,” or something referring to his dark skin tone, it was from a black female. His mother, his sister, his aunt or some other BLACK female close to him.
Can we be honest?
Probably not.
Look, it doesn’t take long for kids in the black community to come to the opinion that there’s something wrong with being dark skinned. We like to blame the media for all our dysfunction and misfortunes. But the truth is we do a lot more damage to ourselves and our kids than any other group. And this is but one in a long line of examples of that.
Now that Li’l wayne — along with a whole lot of other li’l boys — have grown up and have the ability to choose for themselves, is it any wonder that they think light skin is somehow more attractive, and dark skin, less?
The lesson that there’s something wrong with dark skin is something they most likely learned from those closest and dearest to them, from a very young age. They believed them. I think the L’il Waynes of the world developed a penchant or lighter complexions long before we think they did.
WE taught him that.
I think it was Malcolm X who said something about “chickens come home to roost.” I think this is a good example of that ideology.
I feel Lil Wayne has the right to like whatever he wants. What I do have a problem with is his influencing our young people with his personal tastes. He is in a position where people are looking at him and everything he says and does. Unfortunately he is a role model for some of our youth so his actions should be and are scrutinized more so than the regular guy. As for me I like black women, Complexion doesn’t come into play for me. I don’t discount women or men for that matter based on complexion. How you carry oneself and treat other people are what is most important to me. I value substance. The packaging so to speak is not as important.
I for one love dark-skinned females and I dont understand how the fuck you’re black and u turn down a women strictly because shes dark skined what type of sh*t is that? It’s not technically racist but it aint far from it. I’m light skinned and I love all tones of black women. I don’t have any respect for Wayne after this, how are u gonna turn down a women because she’s dark skined as a matter of fact wouldnt Wayne be considered dark skinned? Dark skin women your black is beautiful f**k that BS u hear in these rap songs.
Lil Wayne’s ingorance is absolutley appaulding. The fact that so many African Americans believe this is indicative of the slave mentality that still exist today. However, his utter uncoothness is evident since he thinks money actually makes you a better person. What a falsehood , you can take the person out of the lower class enviroment , but you obiviously can’t take the low class enviroment out of the person. Wake up supposedly well to do entertainers. If your mentality is low class and uneducated, you are also inspite of your money you are utterly classless. You will always be treated as such since you are unrealistic and unable to differentiate reality from your denial and true lack of education inspite of whatever degree you may have or have nothing to support your ingorance. Furthermore, there are truly sophiscated African-Americans who are not impressed with your lack of class. We are a part of the real world and don’t accept the negative, downtrodden version about ourselves.
I’ve always wanted to be darker,..I think dark-skinned women are so beautiful, they’re skin is always flawless and smooth…..lighter-skinned females seem to show every little skin flaw. I seen a light skinned girl once with the worse case of acne ever!…i felt so bad for her…..I’ll take the dark skin any day
The level of bitchasses displayed in the media never ceases to amaze me. The media promotes bitchass black boys, not strong black men. I don’t see many White men in the media either, just White boys. The filthy parasites that dominate the media have no respect for either of us, their day will come…
I beloved up to you will receive carried out right here. The caricature is tasteful, your authored material stylish. nonetheless, you command get got an shakiness over that you wish be delivering the following. sick for sure come further previously again as exactly the similar nearly a lot often inside case you protect this increase.

LMFAO white man, I agree. Too much of that goin on. I feel that everyone needs to jus let down their race colored glasses. Jus like ppl for who they r. Its obvious that he has race issues putting so much emphasis on whats “good”. seems like we as a ppl have forgotten about prayer.. And that ignorant lil grown child needs a whole lot of it, ESPECIALLY since kids are looking up to him. He has forgotten his roots and seems like he is singlehandedly set black folks back 40 years. NEWS FLASH, BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL

Sorry, about the previous reply. Only the site appeared. This site features a brother rappin. It reminds me of the brothers who started rappin in the mid-seventies. Their lyrics were meaningful social commentary without foul language. This is quite refreshing. How did we go from the proud Black fearless brothers of the sixties and seventies to this self-hatin rappin minstral show?
LIL WAYNE IS LAME AS FUCK FOR HIS COMMENT(: WHO JUST SAYS THAT? WHAT IF SOMEBODY SAID “IDONT LIKE YOUR MOM AND DAUGHTER CAUSE THERE DARK SKINNED?” LMAO LIL WAYNE WOULD BE FURIOUS … SMGDH
